That was the first thing I said when I saw my friend, Tian Tian (田田). No, it’s not that she’s not pretty. It’s just that I’ve never seen her look that stunning before.

If not for her wedding that day, I wouldn’t have recognised her had I met her outside because she looked totally different.

Initially, I thought her beauty must be the result of her joy since it was her big day. But when I looked closer, I noticed all her facial features were much more defined than her usual look.

Her nose looked sharp, her cheekbones well defined, her lips plumper, and her eyes glowed. If I had not met her recently, I’d have thought she had gone under her knife.

It was then I realised we ladies could look stunning with professionally done make-up, and we didn’t have to spend a fortune to go under the knife.

The night I found what I really loved to do.

That was the night I decided to pursue a profession in make-up. So, I started learning how to do make-up for others and myself. The more I did, the more I fell in love with it. My friends raved about my creation, and they all said I was a natural at helping them look beautiful.

I was so inspired by what make-up could do for me and other ladies that I spent a good five-figure sum to fly to a foreign land and stayed in a hostel with other aspiring students for six months so that I could learn from the experts in the industry.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I’ve been a professional make-up artist for over seven years. It always brings me joy to see the smile on my customer’s and student’s face after they realise they could be so beautiful without going under the knife.
